Thilak Karunaratne - 50 day Plan

Tue Mar 03, 2015 12:00 am by Quibit

Present Chairman of SEC. Mr Thilak Karunaratne is part of the 100 day plan of the current regime to bring back people who suffered during the previous regime (Irrespective of their efficiencies or capabilities). Shirni B gracefully stayed for 1 day in office and resigned. Thilak K might probably need more days to accomplish his task at SEC. But RW and this Govt has given him only 100 days.

There are only 50 days remaining for Mr Thilak K to plan what he is going to do for SEC other than is vindictive action which is pushing the market on a downward spiral amidst political uncertainty.

HC Judge appointment, threatens independence of the Judiciary: MR

As someone mentioned MR seems to have forgotten what he did to CJ Shirani Bandaranayake.
Forgotten how he appointed CJ Mohan peries.

This is the type of leaders we had. Some of our so called brilliant members( Infact I am sure they don't own any share in the CSE today) still working for MR/WW. May be they are paid to do this job.

Country is on the correct path. Look at the Fitch ratings

How efficiently use such taxes is the basic question raised by people. What % is absorbed for parliamentarians for their housing, vehicles, salaries, food, escort, security, fuel, cell phone etc....

Government should have fiscal plan to minimize such cost relieving heavy tax burden loaded to public...Look into one piece of taxes charged for post paid mobile telephone bill....rounded off..

THE TRUTH: CSE IN BAD SHAPE - RED ALERT!

Fri Feb 17, 2017 11:00 am by samaritan

The following appeared in the 'Mirror Business' of today:

The paradise market is walking from one crisis to another. When the rainbow coalition won the hustings on Jan 08th, the paradise market was expected to break all records set during the former strongman's regime. Instead 24 months into the Govt, the market has hit the very bottom and many brokering types are looking to switch careers b'cos they can't make ends meet. It appears something drastic needs to be done.

Good News...

ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka may go to market with a sovereign bond to raise up to 1.5 billion US dollars as early as next month, with the US Federal Reserve poised to raise rates again.

This week Sri Lanka's cabinet of ministers approved the proposal by the finance ministry to sell the bond.

Sri Lanka is also negotiating a syndicated loan of up to 2.0 billion US dollars.

Sri Lanka is expected to tap Citibank, Standard Chartered Bank, HSBC and Deutsche Bank to help arrange road shows to update investors, in preparation for a bond sale, sources said.

VPEL Dividends on the way...

Mon Jan 23, 2017 10:00 am by Thushara Ayya

I am showing this GEM @ 8.60, not @ 10.00.
This will be the next GEM in the CSE...
Most probably they will announce the dividend on February 1st week.
Approximately 11.6 % Yield on Current Market Price =>  1 / 8.60 * 100 = 11.62791
This is a good share trading below Rs. 10/= to declare a total dividend of Rs. 1 per share.
Look at the past dividend history.

Sampath Bank PLC - A giant awakening

Tue Aug 02, 2016 11:07 pm by EquityChamp

Thought of talking a bit of this stock. It has recorded an EPS of 30.5 and 38.4 in FY 2014 & 2015 but traded around Rs230 - Rs240 most of the time. For some reason the earnings have not been properly reflected on the stock price may be due to subdued market conditions.

On the back of this the bank has recorded significant growth in revenue as well as profits in 1H of FY 2016. Based on my assumptions for 2H I worked out a forecast for the FY 2016 as follows.
 201420152016 F
NII  16,781   18,550      23,353

KAPI-THE SICK GIANT

Thu Feb 16, 2017 11:53 am by lokka1

The latest financials of KAPI released yesterday are indeed disappointing. By manipulating the numbers they show a profit of just seven cents per share. So as shareholders we will not receive a dividend for the second year in a row. We bought these shares at prices well above Rs. 50 a share. The net asset value now is hovering around Rs. 45. It is selling below this price now. This is a company that had extensive real estate holdings in major cities like Colombo, Galle, Matara, Kandy etc. When we were children this was a premier brand in Sri Lanka. The construction industry is supposed to be …

END OF FREEDOM OF SPEECH IN CAPITAL MARKET

Wed Feb 15, 2017 1:17 pm by Quibit

When ever the current government passes a new law some dangerous cluases with far reaching consequences are added so that freedom of speech and democratic rights of people are curtailed.  A classic observation is the new section on Defaming Commission members in the new SEC act that will soon be presented in the parliament. This section  will prevent anybody writing an article to a paper or even making a face book comment highlighting a market weakness. Such efforts to educate the public can be misinterpreted as defamation if the commission wants and the person can be fined Rs 1 million and …

EPF/ETF barred from investing in stocks until cleared of pump-and-dump allegations

The Central Bank (CB) is awaiting relevant authorities to clear the Employee’s Provident Fund (EPF) and Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF) of all charges pertaining to pump and dump allegations in order to restart investing in the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), officials said.
The two state funds stopped investing in the CSE following the bad blood during the pump and dump era two years ago, which has pushed the CSE to lobby the Treasury to get the CB to lure both agencies to restart their investments. The two funds dominate the pensions industry and about 92 per cent of these funds are invested …

Trump says this measure is to strengthen trade between the United States and Sri Lanka.
However, Sri Lankans who hold dual nationality will be banned from …
