Lion Brewery (Ceylon) PLC (Previously Ceylon Beverage Holdings PLC), has seen both revenue and profits growing sharply in the nine months ended December 31, 2011 with revenue up 56% to Rs.12.7 billion and the after-tax profit up 54% to Rs.1.08 billion translating to an earnings per share of Rs.13.04, up from Rs.8.34 the previous year.

Lion, is controlled by Ceylon Beverage Holdings which no longer engages in manufacturing activity with Lion doing the group’s brewing business.

The third quarter had been equally strong with revenue up 56% to Rs.4.9 billion and the after-tax profit up 55% to Rs.443.2 million translating to an earnings per share of Rs.5.40 against the previous year’s Rs.3.45.

Lion has a stated capital of Rs.2.5 billion, a capital reserve of Rs.860.5 million and revenue reserves of Rs.2.66 billion with total assets running at Rs.10.64 billion and total liabilities at Rs.4.58 billion.

Net assets per share as at Dec. 31 were up to Rs.71.35 from Rs.50.69 a year earlier with the Lion share trading at a high of Rs.260 and a low of Rs.180 during the nine-month period against a trading range of Rs.199 to Rs.86.50 a year earlier.

Ceylon Beverage Holdings PLC with 51% is the controlling shareholder followed by Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Berhad with 24.6% and Carson Cumberbatch with 5.13%.

Bukit Darah, a Carson company owns 1.63% while Lanka Orix Leasing Company owns 3.07%. Public holding of the company is 17.63%.
