Hi All,

This is my first post. I have been following the forum for few days and it's really great Smile

I am a new comer to Stock market.
Can you please explain the meaning of XD and Consideration using the following example.

If I buy stocks on march 31st am I entitled for this? If not what is the last date I can buy to be entitled for this and for how many days do I have to keep these stocks with me for that?

03-Mar-2011 SCRIP DIVIDEND - COMB (Voting & Non - Voting)
Company ID: - COMB (Voting)
Date of Announcement:-28.01.2011
Proportion: - 01 for 155.6
Consideration: - Rs. 311.11/-
General Meeting/ Allotment: - 30.Mar.2011
Qty Offered:-2,272,008 (Plus any additional shares that need to be issued in the event employee share options are exercised)

Thanks Smile

A scrip dividend takes the form a company creating more shares in the firm and giving them for free to existing shareholders. Also called a scrip issue also be well described as a way for a company to capitalise financial reserves.

Generally, a firm will pay one new share for a certain and fixed number of existing shares already owned. For example, this may take the form of one new share for every 155.6 shares held. This would be called a 1 for 155.6 scrip dividend.

Therefore, if an investor owned 5000 shares in a firm, and a 1 for 155.6 issue is paid, the investor would be entitled to 32.13 new shares (32 shares practically). These are in addition to the current holding.

If we follow our example still further and the current price per share is 200..

5000 x 200 divided by 5032 = 198.72 (Ex-scrip price or XD date price approximately)

Now if u have 5000 shares and u got 32 script shares, you could sell the new scrip shares and receive:
198.72 x 32 = 6359/- as a profit

XD means Excluding dividend, which in simple terms indicate the buyer wont be entitled for the dividend. So if you buy COMB shares on XD:-31.Mar.2011, ur not entitled for the scrip dividend.
