Just updated my forecast with the actual generation data upto Dec'14.

I would say, a 50 cents Dividend is imminent. Valuation also stands  attractive at a PE of 6.67 times

As TuskerLK pointed out a dividend of VPEL should come any time soon. For me @ 7.90 this is fine to buy.

Anyway thanks for the analysis TuskerLK. Basketball

TuskerLK, do you think that the political conditions will have an impact on #VPEL?

Businessmen have both sides under check and i can't see how a hydropower company can be suppressed by political forces.

Businessmen have both sides under check and i can't see how a hydropower company can be suppressed by political forces.

Hydro power companies operate with long term agreement with the governments & in a well regulated environment. I don't see any issues that can crop up to adversely affect the hydro companies.

In addition, the present minister in charge is the same minister oversaw the industry during MR regime, it should give policy stability for some extend.

However, those projects endangered due to some proposed development projects by former regime might benefit due to the additional delays/ cancellation of such projects.(ex. Uma oya diversion, Gin ganga diversion etc)

If the gov't really want to suppress Dammika Perera, they have other big enterprises in his empire to catch. in fact on my view, VPEL may be the most safer bet for DP presently.

Adding to before, wouldn't it be an apt move for DP to give out another hefty dividend so that he is liquid as well as has a buffer against all these taxes this new government is imposing on most of his ventures? (Hayleys, Casino etc)

Don't expect a similar performance on the Q4.

Q4 will generally a dry season, thus the bottom line is also low. my workings indicates a group Q4 PAT for nearly 30mn. therefore we can safely assume that the EPS for the current year will be less than 1.25. thereby VPEL is trading at a PE of 6.5 times.

Going forward the tariff may come down owing to the low international crude oil prices, which is one important parameter in computing the avoided cost tariff, which is paid to all three power plants owned by VPEL. however the impact is not directly proportional to the crude oil price drop in the recent past, due to the fact that the actual avoided cost tariff paid is the average of last couple of years's computed tariffs.

Given that in mind i'm expecting a maximum of 10% reduction in the tariff, however the reduction of finance cost due to the repayment of facilities obtained from its last two projects would reduce the impact. Overall I expect a EPS of 1.03 for FY 2015/16 which would give a forward PE of 8 times. I'm still positive about the earning potential.

Although VPEL is quite a dividend paying company, they seems to have no plans to invest in any further projects, which limits the long term growth of the company.

unless and otherwise you're a 100% trader who runs on credit, there is nothing to worry about these fluctuations. In fact VPEL is one of the best stock in the CSE in terms of Dividend payout as well as the fundamentals. it's a good medium term stock.

I don't think so, the share price will drop by 50 cents soon after XD, but by then you'll be entitle for the dividend of 50 cents, if you sell now and re enter after the price drop, your ultimate position will be the same, because you'll not be entitle for the dividend. isn't it.

those who are better off will be the one who managed to sell at 9.10 and re enter at least by 8.40 or below.

Yes TLK,
correct hope
1>this is drop and settle around 8.2-8.4 after XD.
If u Sell now @ 9.0 -8.9 U dont get Divdnt
u can re enter @ 8.2-8.4
but u have to pay 1% when u r selling or buying
so if u r selling now and then buying u have to pay 2%

so no point of selling and re enter with this counter.

Get the dividend and then u have money. if u wish to sell later or not.

TuskerLK i am not talking about the reputation of the stock what i am saying the fall in the price after xd there are guy who want to collect dividend and capital gain so just informing about the price drop. if it should fall below 8.40, what i am saying is they should sell at the present price level and re enter after XD. cprrect me if i am not right
I don't think so, the share price will drop by 50 cents soon after XD, but by then you'll be entitle for the dividend of 50 cents, if you sell now and re enter after the price drop, your ultimate position will be the same, because you'll not be entitle for the dividend. isn't it.

those who are better off will be the one who managed to sell at 9.10 and re enter at least by 8.40 or below.

don't you think the price will drop further tomorrow..who know what the asi will be tomorrow

Market runs with an uncertainty, who expected the price to go up to 9.10 yesterday and who knows it may touch 10.00 tomorrow.

yes possible low volume traded today comparing to the other days i even saw a 2 million buy order get filled within seconds @ Rs 9.00 yesterday.Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

it was Dr.TS who bought those shares, he might become active again as he ha quite a large amount of money from VLL disposal

that good, there is a good chance the share price might go further up even after XD..my stupid broker said to sell when it was 8.30. i guess he was misleading me.

good days ahead for VPEL holders

unless and otherwise you're a 100% trader who runs on credit, there is nothing to worry about these fluctuations. In fact VPEL is one of the best stock in the CSE in terms of Dividend payout as well as the fundamentals. it's a good medium term stock.

Everybody make mistakes in reading the market bro, I also did the dumb thing by selling half of my holding at 8.30 and next day tried to re enter at 8.40 when the share was trading at 8.50. by evening it shot up. but I can't blame anyone as I was acting on my own.

By the way, anybody watching HPWR?? I have a strong feeling that they might give away a hefty dividend.
