Under the vision of Banking Sector Consolidation of Mahinda Rajapaksa government During the month of December 2014, further progress was made by banks, and finance and leasing companies on the financial sector consolidation process. Amalgamation of the Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka PLC, MCSL Financial Services Ltd and MBSL Savings Bank Ltd reached the final stage and is expected to take place shortly, with the merged entity operating as a licensed finance company.

It appears most of banks follow delaying technique

They are waiting for change of government

Consolidation programme is to strengthen the banking sector in the economy for the benefit of customers also. Already tested internationally and well accepted without opposition in Sri Lanka. No government take a step back. It will apply for Insurance sector also. Banks, Finance companies, Insurance deal with public money so should be regulated strictly.
