Foreigners who invest over USD 300,000 to get 2 to 5 year visa

Two to five year Resident Visa will be issued for foreigners who invest minimum of USD 300,000 individually in Sri Lanka, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said.

The Minister made the observation while speaking at a press conference held on Thursday

Such proposals clearly reveal that dire need of foreign currency into country.
All attempts to repay foreign debt & debt servicing cost?

Many countries are using same technique to attract foreign currencies. As example Cyprus, etc...

Beggars will ride on Ravi's resident visas: Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa MP

The finance minister has no right to take arbitrary decisions. Not even the President knows about this.

We would have opposed such a proposal if it was submitted to the Cabinet,” the justice minister said.

US$300,000 was equivalent to Rs.45 million which is the amount spent to buy a luxury vehicle or just two perches of land in Colombo.
“Providing privileges to foreigners who invest US$300,000 is absurd.

We could encourage local investors, who are capable of investing Rs.45 million, instead. We have plenty of such investors in the country,” the justice minister said.

It would be a commendable thinking/approach if the amount per individual is ascertained over US$1m.
