A Deakin spokeswoman said the university was honouring Mr Wickremesinghe for modernising laws and legal institutions to drive foreign investment in Sri Lanka.

“The university is recognising Mr Wickremesinghe for playing a key role in transitioning Sri Lanka from a country traumatised by protracted, violent conflict toward a stable democracy,” she said.

There are 8 Universities in Australia forming the Group of eight Universities which are the oldest and prestigious. Deakin does not belong to that group.

Probably Mervyn Silva too may have received his Doctorate from Deakin.

Very soon there may be a foundation stone laying ceremony to establish a Deakin campus here and finally it may turn out to be DEEKIN, like the 'Google loon' becoming 'Rama loon' project.

Ranil is very intelligent person out of present politicians

He entered Colombo University purely on merits

He also got honorary Doctorate on merits

It is not fair to use this forum for slinging mud due to political reasons

He is intelligent that is why he has not selected you to SEC or CSE even though you offered your services via a post in this forum. So don't over do it.

Education nd intelligent are two different things.Paper qualification mainly come for education.
Being a lawyer ,doctor does not say that he can change the social or culture of this nation who posses a rich cultural valve hails from more thousands of years.
Intelligent people have a value on culture and pay attention on it.
It is not mud sliding to any body .we do have a Right to talk on that.

[size=32]President reveals why he removed Mohan Peiris

President Maithripala Sirisena revealed, yesterday, that the first action he took using his executive powers was to remove former chief justice Mohan Peiris, when he came and begged him not to remove him from his post and expressed his willingness to do anything he wanted.
The president disclosed how Mohan Peiris visited him at his residence after he assumed duties on January 9, 2015 and promised to take action in his favour and implored him not to remove him from his post of CJ.
The president revealed this while addressing a public meeting in Warakapola.
“Chief Justice Mohan Peiris came to meet me at 10.00 pm on the day after I assumed duties as president and told me not to remove him from his post. He said he would deliver his judgments according to my wishes. I told him there was no intention of removing him from his post and told him to leave my residence,” the president said.
But he returned the next day and begged me not to remove him from his post, he said.
Then I realised how these people had been in the habit of giving judgments to suit the previous regime. Therefore, I decided to remove him from his post at once, using my executive powers for the first time, he said. (Pushpakumara Mallawaarachchi)
