Market made the U turn & move forward in force opposing past views of imminent market crash. To everyone's surprise such critics are not present to explain the readers why/how market had freed from illness. Do the critics still advocate to sell the shares predicting market down trend?

Ranil delay action against former Govt. corruption to split SLFP???? Can you explain why he hasn't even thought of taking action against CB Daylight robbery? The commission of inquiry should ascertain whether Ranil as the subject Minister too had a hand in this mega deal because Central Bank was always under Finance Ministry but for the 1st time in history he moved it away from Finance Ministry to bring it directly under his control. Without stopping there he went on to appoint his close, trusted financial associate Arjun Mahendran as the Governor. And just under 50 days of their infamous 100 day programme this notorious robbery took place. How can he take action against cottuption when he himself is corrupt?

This forum is very interesting now

There are some Rajapaksa loyalist who are very intelligent and  Knowledgeable like Chiwi and some fools They do not like to see upward trend under this govt

That is why they always make negative statements

Most of this govt problems are related to Rajapaksa period The wanted have premature election because economy is in serious crisis Unproductive Employment Unproductive projects on foreign loans. corruption No rule of Law are some of problems

This govt also made mistake Main blunder is appointment of  Arjun Mahendran as CB governor

Some say UNP did not have sufficient money to fight with  Rajapaksas . Bond issue is to raise fund to fight wt[ith huge funds of Rajapaksas

But arjuna mahendran use it to get big amount for his family

Now two years gone Govt also learned lesson

Now you can see improvement in economic management and also Stock Market

I hope Rajapaksa loyalist of this forum also will learn a Lesson before end of this year
Govt has another three years and they will show results .Wait and See

I suppose you think Market has gone up after 2009 and market come down after 2015

You also think market will go up after 2019 expecting new govt

My idea is this is total misconception. Upward trend after 2009 had been mostly manipulated Even they also not able maintain it Pl see statistics after 2009.It was not sustainable situation That was the main reason for premature Presidential Election

Any way i agree if present economic management continue  and No proper action taken against corruption murders  misappropriation of national resources definitely new govt will come  with support of some corrupt ministers of present govt. you also will see following situation
http://www.vikalpa.org/?p=30389

Then what will happen to stock market and international situation of this country

Some seem to be dragging their political likes and dislikes in to investing in the capital market. Every investor irrespective of his/her political inclination want to see a stabilized, vibrant stock market to make intelligent investments for wealth creation. For that Political Stability is absolutely essential and mandatory

A national/unity government of an Executive President and a Prime Minister, formed by the leaders of the 2 main political parties and commanding 2/3rd majority in the Parliament should without any doubt create absolute political stability. However 2 1/2 years in power that is exactly what this govt has been struggling for, STABILITY.

The performance of our stock market during the period of this govt reflects the political instability, display of improper management of the economy and inconsistent policy formulation

The No.1 reason for the decline was the disastrous 1st budget of Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe in Jan 2015. Investors who relied upon business friendly UNP were in for a rude shock and the market started steadily loosing ever since. Profits of many listed companies were affected by the illegal super gains tax.

The No.2 reason was the notorious CB bond scam of Ranil's trusted financial buddy Arjuna Mahendran in Feb 2015 which sent the interest rates spiraling up overnight and making the share market less attractive for the investors. Additional funds were urgently required to pay increased wages to state sector as was proposed in Ranil's 1st budget.

Then came the blow No.3. Ranil could not lead his party to victory in Aug 2015 General Elections to a simple majority in Parliament and had no option but to go for the current unstable arrangement with President Sirisena.

Irrespective of our political inclinations let us hope as investors, that this current upward trend seen from late March 2017 would continue and we as investors will have a conducive environment for investing to create wealth legally

DG Dayarathne, Rajitha Senatatne realized the ground realities on the May Day of 2017. If you think he is clean politician just do some background research about PRAA a group that was responsible for hundreds of extra- judicial killings during JVP insurrection and how his son Chathura who had never being employed spent vast amounts of money in last general elections. Rajitha is a Dentist and it is very doubtful that a Dentist could ever spend so much of money his campaign, on top of his sons campaign

I think Rajitha senaratne is a financially honest politician comparing with person like Basil R Under present system in this country  almost all politicians get money from peoplet expecting various benefits from politicians

i also know  Rajitha is intellectually honest man He was junior student to me at Peradeniya and did politics honestly

1989 period was a abnormal period various people  involved in killing people. Extra judicial killings was order of the day

Noe stock market is coming to stable level i think it will stabilise very soon

If the govt improve economic management and take proper action against corruption and murders every thing will improve including stock market

Otherwise Rajapaksas will come again and repeat history

Either you are honest or dishonest. " comparatively financially honest" is s false notion. This writer is aware of such financial irregularities. I am astonished as to how you want only certain selected fraudulent acts and killings be investigated and at the same time whitewashing fraudulent acts and cold blooded executions of your political favorites and disgracefully trying to Protect them in a public forum

Yes I agree that could be the reality in Sri Lankan politics. But what is astonishing is that you want action being taken only against your political dislikes and at the same time whitewashing the killings and frauds attributed to your university colleague Rajitha Senarathne and not wanting any action or investigation in that regard. Law has to be applied equally across all, if there is to be true law and order in any country.

Well I did research as adviced by you. What I found was amazing and probably could be to your utter dismay and disappointment.

Source :- Bloomberg
Heading :- TOP 10 MARKETS BY VOLATILITY-ADJUSTED RETURNS
Sub Heading:- Developing Markets Remain the Most Profitable Markets After Adjusting for Price Swings
Foot Note (At the end of the data table) says they have excluded Venezuela from their calculations due to market distortions

2009 - Sri Lanka is ranked as the 2nd highest profitable stock market in the world
This is when the economy was on growth trajectory following the end of the war and many foreign investors rushing in to Sri Lanka

2010 - Sri Lanka emerges as the most profitable No.1 stock market in the world.
The growth momentum continued and peaked in 2010

2014 - Sri Lanka once again emerges as the most profitable No.1 stock market in the world.

So it was indeed a consistent growth in the capital market of Sri Lanka from 2009 to 2014 as per the data published by Bloomberg. Sri Lanka does not feature in the Top 10 list of Bloomberg in 2011, 2012 and 2013 understandably due to market corrections but it bounces back to the top position 3 years after 2010.

Thanks

Even before 2014 i said Sri Lanka could not be world best stock market under prevailing level of economic management

We came to that level due to manipulation By govt authorities using public funds They made money also
by manipulation

Our fellows knew misled SUDDAS That why good Blumberg report

Now no govt manipulation This govt not worried about stock market That why they re Appointed Karunaratne again

I think Some MR fellows tried  to manipulate recently recently (Private Sector Manipulation)

They are week now That why market is going up

I hope market will stabilise and will show real economic management level
in near future

Well you wanted us go and check the statistics which I did. When the statistics published by an internationally credible leading organization, who knows what they are researching about. Are we to rely on the data published by such a credible organization who closely watches over 90 equity markets around globe and adjust their analysis for possible manipulations and price swings. Or are we to believe a normal laymen such as you who just talk only with your own thinking without any substantive research data to back your arguments? Well we would go by undisputed data published by Bloomberg and not the poor analysis based on some qualitative assumptions you make

They only consider published statistics of CSE and other organisation

Development under MR not sustainable That's why it has come to this level with in short period

Readers with average intelligence will decide who is layman

I do not wish to continue this further with abnormal layman
