Some people believe that cost of production is too high in Poultry sector. But you can find it is not for all.

It is a trend to move share price of those companies same period even though with low performers. As industry leader GRAN always has more interest and lowest share price. But it is the less worth and least profitable company out of those. Profit margin is low and heavily dependable world market prices for corn flour.
BFL is a good share but it is not attractive as TAFL. March-17 quarter they earned their profit almost as other operational income but not from operations.
TAFL always maintain good profit margin as we cant see any other industry.  Strong earnings and increasing dividend income will create this share more attractive in the market. There will be a day in near future TAFL performing alone.
For the poultry industry there is a seasonal effect. The ones who has holding power for few months TAFL will give a decent gain.

Yes, I see poultry industry didn't react to any of the positive news.
1. Tax on maize prices reduced. (http://www.economynext.com/Sri_Lanka_cuts_import_taxes_on_rice,_maize_wheat_fish_amid_drought-3-8434.html)

2. Poultry comes under agree category, therefore corporate will be at 14% not 28%

3. Price control on Chicken removed. (http://dailynews.lk/2017/03/14/local/110338/price-controls-chicken-sugar-removed)

Therefore, industry cost of production can not be high and even if it is high they can pass on to the customers as price control removed.

If you see TAFL Net profit margin, it has come down from 31% to 27% only while GRAN Net profit margin down from 12% to 5%. I personally feel TAFL share price is highly valued at Rs 120

Very strong reasons to Poultry industry to make good profit for BIG companies. Thanks for sharing Dr. H

With the reduction of corporate tax to 14% industry leaders who is using higher tec for production can reduce price further while small industry players not gaining any significant cost savings. So I assume bigger companies might dominate the industry with acquiring more market share.

Bairaha Farms has posted flat results on company level and group level has posted a significant drop. I assume feed mill might have been the reason behind the drop in Group level. with a healthy level of rain fall i assume maize production should have resumed. Therefore can expect the maize price to drop in the running quarter. If anyone have access to maize prices please update us to foresee the performance.

Thank you.

This sector specially Grains are going to perform in a big way. World market grain prices are low about $147/-
They were not allowed to import and they were asking govt. to give the permission and it was given on 1st August.
Grain imports during last 3 months were very high and even the total imports increased due to this as well. With this they will show huge results time to come.

As per the Sept report they have got the govt. approval to import maize (from 1st August) and taxes were reduced to 10/- per kilo from 65%, This is going to boost their next qtr considerably. Even the imported maize is very much cheaper than the local maize.
